I started preliminarily planning Limitless Brewing in 2016, of course it was all just in my head at that point. But in April of 2016, we took a trip to New Orleans with our fellow founder and while enjoying a Hurricane at Pat O’brien’s, we determined that we were really going to do this. We had just spent the day with Jacob Landry of Urban South and Robert Bostick at Brieux Carre Brewing and they were amazing inspirations to me. They both have so much passion, energy and drive, that it gave me the push that I needed to make the commitment to opening a brewery.
Fast forward to June 2016 and I was headed to Vernal, Utah to interview the Brewing Operations Manager at their local brewery. I knew in my mind that I was going to convince him to come join me when I was ready to open, but he didn’t know that. We had been in contact with him prior and before I even met him, knew he would be the perfect addition to the Limitless team. We had talked prior about quality products, respecting the industry as a craft and the respect for both the past and the future contributions that people have made in the industry.
When I arrived in Utah, he was even better in person than I imagined. He was like a kid in a candy store, showing us everything in the brewery and the lab. He was excited about what he was doing and wanted to share as much as he could with us. As we spent the day with him, and then later in the day his family, we knew we wanted him to work with us.
Limitless Brewing is excited, and a little humbled, to announce Skylor Alexander (Beer Slave Extraordinaire) as our Brewing Operations Manager. Out of all of his attributes, the thing I admire the most is that he is never satisfied with the present, he constantly pushes himself, researching and trying to improve himself, both personally and professionally. He is extremely smart and has a load of experience, and he shares our vision of being a community focused brewery that will push the boundaries of what we can be. Since June, he has been working with us through his consulting business, Landlocked Brewery Consulting, and continues to prove to us that he is exactly what Limitless Brewing is about.
As we go through this process, we enjoy celebrating and sharing every milestone we have met so far. Hopefully, our milestones will begin to happen a bit quicker over the next few months. By far this is more listening, research and reading than I have done in my entire life all put together, but it is also way more enjoyable than I ever thought these things could be! It is amazing the difference between doing what I have to do versus finding my passion and loving every moment of what I have been doing.
We are currently going over the budgets, budgets and more budgets, to make sure that we have not missed anything. It started with the brewing system, which is the biggest number, but I have even been to Home Depot to price out 2x4s so I have the entire picture of what we are looking at. Part of our goal in this journey is to be authentic and honest with you and really share the story that we are experiencing. So with that in mind, we have to get some funding and we hope that by putting all the numbers in place, we can secure financing with our carefully crafted budgets. By the end of January, we hope to begin the process of financing. Our ultimate goal is to have a space selected in March to share our passion of community and beer with you.
When we do open, we will have a yet to be determined Brewer and already determined Operations Manager to assist in making Limitless the highest quality beer. Many people ask us how we can make that work - well we are committed to the beer which we will serve. Having a high quality lab will allow everyone at Limitless to be proud of the product we are producing and ensure that we are honoring craft beer that has come before us that also believes that craft beer should be quality first.
Back to the title of this message. 100 likes? We are honored that you have taken an interest in what we are doing and hope that our goal to be a community centered brewery is something that others can believe in. We want to be a place of community, charity and commitment to those that we come in contact with and make a positive impact in the lives of people who have anything to do with being Limitless. We want to be a brewery of transperancy and we hope that by sharing our story and the journey we are on that you can get to know us before you even have a beer with us! We don't want to be full of surprises, we want you to be a part of what we are doing! We want you to be Limitless.
So you may have heard this before, but I started growlersandstickers.com when I thought I needed to do something outside of my personal box. I had listened to my wife's friend talk about her small business and all the possibilities that were out there for her and what it could become. Silently, behind the scenes, I started to formulate my own idea of what I could do to share my passion with the world and also to get outside of my own parameters that I had put on my life. I started my blog as a test of what could be in front of me. I think in the back of my head I had always thought about opening a brewery, but I first needed to tell other people's stories. And I did. For two years, I traveled to over 150 breweries and met some of the most amazing people that all share the same passion that I have, beer. Not just drinking it, but brewing it, sharing it with others, expirementing with it and allowing it to have a specific place in their life.
I love beer, and I don't just say that because I am caught up in the craze, I truly like beer. I like the flavors that come together and I of course like that it puts me a bit at ease and allows me to relax at the end of a hard day. I also like what it does for others, it allows us to be a community of people who have like minded thoughts and can just come together over a beer or two. Take Darin for instance, he is a beer lover too, constantly bringing a variety pack of individual styles to share on Saturday nights.
After sharing all these stories and hearing business owners and brewers, I knew the next step I had to take. I mean after having some of the best beer in the country, I knew I wanted to share this with others, I know that my passion can change others lives. It's not just about the beer, it is about the community that it creates, the ideas that can be shared and the way that community and ideas can change a person for the better.
So when I thought of the name, I knew it had be Limitless Brewing. I want to be a place that you can believe in yourself to be more than you thought, to recognize that you don't have to be what other people define you as, that we are full of limitless possibilities.
Who knew doing a logo could be such hard work? And really, this is all hard work...but it is so much fun! The logo is finally finished and we couldn't be more pleased to see all the work with the logo paid off! We have also developed more of our story, which is all true, but it is interesting to put it all in words!
The sunburst spoke to us from the moment that we saw it. We knew that it captured our vision of who and what we wanted to be at Limitless. Our lives have taught us that people’s strengths are derived from connection and we want to provide people the energy to be adventurous, discover themselves and connect with others in a way that most of the time isn’t possible in the world we live in. We are a human centered brand that focuses on you, what you want and the force behind you being limitless in your own world. Just like the sunburst creates an imagery of scattering sun, we want to be the center for our community, creating light in different ways to people that we come in contact with.
We were introduced to Skylor Alexander, owner of Landlocked Brewery Consulting, when he returned for a visit to his hometown, KC. He was visiting some local breweries and had checked out one that we had written about on GrowlersandStickers.com. He reached out to us to invite us to Dinosaur Country, where he is currently working with a local brewery. For us, it was one of those moments we had waited for as a blog! He reached out to us and wanted to meet, and we couldn't have been happier.
Then we did a three part series with Skylor, one about him and how he got into brewing, one about Landlocked Brewery Consulting and one about the brewery that he is contracted with. While doing our interviews with Skylor, we found him to be one of the most honest and open people we had met while doing the blog. His true passion for the beer industry was evident in every question we asked him. It was refreshing to talk with someone who wasn't just brewing beer because it is the coolest job to have, but he truly loves every single piece of the brewing industry and really lives and loves beer every day.
In June, we made the trek to visit him in person. After doing the interviews via email, we knew it was going to be great to meet him, but we really didn't want to overstay our welcome. We planned on staying just over 24 hours to meet him, see the Operation he was currently working on and hopefully have some beer together.
Upon our arrival, it was clear to us that Skylor was the real deal. He was just as energetic and real as he portrayed himself to be in our email interviews. He showed us around the operations with the Brewmaster, we watched some canning in action, saw all of the quality measures he had put into place and talked like we had known each other for years.
Now prior to this, we knew that we wanted to open a brewery, but we weren't too sure of all the ins and outs of making it actually come to life. We knew that it was an expensive endeavor and there are so many things to think about and as a non-experienced brewery owner, we knew that we needed help.
As we sat at Skylor's around a bonfire that night, we knew that Landlocked was the company for us to assist us in our brewery planning. Right off the bat, Skylor was able to assist in the first line thoughts of opening a brewery. Having truly been there and done that, everything from pre-planning to distribution, Landlocked has been by our side at every step. He even has done things above and beyond, like providing input on the logo and being available to quickly respond to questions or us just having a mental break on something. He is level headed and collected, but also makes sure that you stay on the right path.
We are so grateful to have met Landlocked Brewery Consulting and know that without his guidance, we wouldn't be where we are today. We are happy to call Skylor more than just our consultant, he is our friend.
